I'm self employed and used to work in various levels of healthcare from provider to facilities to purchasing so I'm intimately familiar with how bad it was before the ACA.</p><p>Self employed, I couldn't buy insurance before the ACA until I wiggled into a special major risk program that covered less and cost me more at age 29 than my off-exchange plan did at age 49 (without adjusting for inflation).</p><p>The <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/ACA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ACA</span></a> broke a decades long impasse in healthcare reform. Spin D'Accord<p>This proposed HHS rule change to ACA is bad across the board. These are just 3 issues:</p><p>1 - It blocks DACA people from accessing and receiving subsidies from the ACA.</p><p>2 - It *prohibits* ACA plans from covering transgender affirming care.</p><p>3 - Creates new hurdles to maintain coverage. Lisa Kalayji<p>Public comment is open on a proposed US federal policy change that would strip trans people on ACA (health insurance exchange) plans of their gender-affirming care and exclude DACA recipients (undocumented immigrants who have been in the US since they were kids and who have government permission to continue living and working here) from getting insurance at all. </p><p>It also shortens the open enrollment period, which is currently only 2.5 frantic months, to just a month and a half, which will make it impossible for many people to get insurance, and would almost certainly be compounded by a mass exodus of insurance brokers from their jobs (they already work 12 hour days during open enrollment).
