AHAAHA–OAH Joint Statement on Federal Censorship of American HistoryThe American Historical Association (AHA) and the Organization of American Historians (OAH) have released a joint statement condemning federal censorship of American history.

This Sunday, March 9th, our co-op has the honor of welcoming historian Kenyon Zimmer for a virtual event on the neglected history of Jewish anarchism in the United States. Last year during the anarchist bookfair, Kenyon presented in-person on the work of Joseph Cohen, who in 1945 published "The Jewish Anarchist Movement in America," an essential Yiddish-language study. Now he returns to continue the conversation with writers Shane Burley ("Safety Through Solidarity: A Radical Guide to Fighting Antisemitism") and Anna Elena Torres ("With Freedom in Our Ears: Histories of Jewish Anarchism").

Register for this free online event and find a copy of Kenyon's editted and annotated edition of "The Jewish Anarchist Movement in America" at firestorm.coop/events/3338-red. Can't make the event but still want to listen in? Sign up and we'll send you the recording to stream at your convenience!

Short thread!

#OnThisDay, 3 Mar 1913, thousands of women marched through Washington DC in the Suffrage Parade. They are led by Inez Milholland, a lawyer on a white horse, with delegations from each state following.

The day before Ida B Wells and other Black suffragists were told they would be segregated, and had to march at the back. Wells said that she would march with Illinois or not at all.

Today I learned (via continuing my audiobook read of *American Nations* by Colin Woodard) about some early history of Pennsylvania, which was colonized by pacifist Quakers who became anti-slavery abolitionists as time went on, and had progressive-for-the-time treatment of indigenous folks. There's more nuance than that, of course, but it was all previously entirely unknown to me.
