So, I've done the composite masking step. Takes a couple of hours to render the composite, but I think I'm done with it.
I've already shown an example of an ink mask. But for this one, I also wanted to deal with a reflection, which I felt was a little confusing.
The "aquarium room" has glass at two angles. I think the idea was that this allows press to take photos from different angles during the suit-donning and testing phase (you've probably seen some of these photos in news coverage of Soyuz flights to ISS).
This means that if you take a shot straight from the side, you see the astronauts, but also a reflection of the press gallery. So I wound up with this angle, which basically looks fine, but one of the (non-moving) audience members seems to be staring straight at us in the audience! It's a little distracting.
So I figured I'd soften the reflection with a mask on the "reflection" layer of the EXR.
