I have been a flutist for most of my life, and the ability to precisely direct air came in unexpectedly handy today. A mosquito flew into my car while I was loading groceries (which I noticed after closing the door). I was able to roll down the window and direct him to leave from several feet away by basically forming a flute embouchure and aiming it at him. 😆

On my way home from an LSO concert at the Barbican.

It was conducted by Barbara Hannigan who also sang in two of the pieces.

Gareth Davies, the principal flute player, played a solo up in the gods, only a few metres from me!

Loved ‘The Miraculous Mandarin’ by Béla Bartók. Not heard it before.

Wild card tickets are £12 and they can seat you anywhere.

An evocative improvisation "the sacred wings" by by Olena Uutai on #flute, voice, khomus (jawharp) and electronica, including various bird calls. Uutai has been playing the khomus, the national #instrument of Sakha (formerly Yakutia), since she was 7.
"Soundful and precious to our hearts, with the shivering tongue, with the iron stick dinging like a string, making a hundred various sounds." (sakhan poem about the khomus)

I wrote about it here a few months ago:

➞ Brahms' "12-Finger #Sonata for #Cello, Soap and Toilet Paper" has never been performed.
➞ Mozart's "Nose #Flute Duet for 3 Nose Flutists" was never performed either.
➞ So this world is being destroyed in a banal way!

➤ But now I have seen this:

➤ And cello with toilet paper:

➤ I say THANK YOU to the #artists - you save my day!
