The musician playing at the time was Doc Watson. One of the Cambridge guys couldn't believe he had never heard of someone this talented. He asked where else does Watson play. The answer was, He doesn't play anywhere else ... he's blind. The Harvard Square folkies then helped put Doc on the road and in front of diverse, appreciative audiences. I heard him sing to an audience of over 3,000 at the University of Maine. He showed that he was well grounded in traditional material but was not at all afraid to perform the latest songs. Too bad Guitar Pilgrim hasn't released a video about Doc's picking style. He has done nearly everyone else. It seems to me I've seen a video of Tommy Emmanuel presenting how to play "Doc's Guitar." Doc and Merle were really amazing.</p><p>:</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/docwatson" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>docwatson</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/folkmusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>folkmusic</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/countrymusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>countrymusic</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/guitar" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>guitar</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/guitarmusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>guitarmusic</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/guitarpicking" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>guitarpicking</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/guitarplayer" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>guitarplayer</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/guitarplaying" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>guitarplaying</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/musicnews" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>musicnews</span></a> </p><p>:::</p>
