Robin Bannks<p>Rally for Decency</p><p>The cops arrest Morrison for breaking obscenity laws in Florida. Three weeks later, on March 23, 1969, teens hold the Rally for Decency in Miami drawing 30,000 people, including Jackie Gleason, Anita Bryant and The Lettermen. The rally protests “longhairs and weird dressers” and later is commended by President Richard Nixon. Fun group.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/jimmorrison" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jimmorrison</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/thedoors" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>thedoors</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/rallyfordecency" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rallyfordecency</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/musicsky" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>musicsky</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/musiciansky" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>musiciansky</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/rockmusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rockmusic</span></a></p><p><a href="https://robinbannks.wordpress.com/2025/03/23/rally-for-decency/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">robinbannks.wordpress.com/2025</span><span class="invisible">/03/23/rally-for-decency/</span></a></p>

Robin Bannks<p>Morrison Hotel</p><p>The Doors release Morrison Hotel on February 9, 1970. The cover is shot by the legendary Henry Diltz. Morrison Hotel is considered by many as the return to the original Doors "blues-rock" sound found in their earlier albums. Lonnie Mack worked the bass in studio sessions. Circuits<p>We visited a lot of museums, but we also went to Père Lachaise cemetary, final resting place of Edith Piaf, Heloise and Abelard (now THAT story hasn&#39;t aged well...), Chopin, and Jim Morrison, among others. </p><p>Last time I was here was 30-ish years ago, and the entire place was covered in graffiti with messages like &quot;Jim (Morrison)---&gt;This Way&quot; scrawled on headstones everywhere. 50+ years after the Lizard King&#39;s death, there&#39;s barely a trace of it left, though the grave itself is now behind a steel barricade. </p><p>Interesting observation: If my daughter is any kind of standard bearer for her generation, modern teenagers not only have no idea who Jim Morrison is, they also are not particular impressed by the details even after having them explained to them with the accompaniment of a Doors song being played on an iPhone after having walked around the city all day only to end up in some dumb cemetery with their nerd parents.</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/thedoors" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>thedoors</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/jimmorrison" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>jimmorrison</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/graveyard" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>graveyard</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/cemetery" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>cemetery</span></a></p>
