Przemyślenia Maniaka<p>[EN] In 2010, when I was choosing my field of study at the university, I only knew one thing: I wanted it to have something to do with foreign languages. Ultimately, I decided to go with Japanese Studies. However, I hadn’t known much about Japan by then. So, before the start of the academic year, as a part of my preparations, I watched the 1980 “Shogun” series (don’t judge). I was instantly hooked and the series helped me learn some basic vocabulary. And although it was certainly no documentary, I believe it also helped me form a general idea about the 16th century Japan — however filtered through the western eyes. Narratively, though, the series is rather not that attractive for the contemporary audiences. So since then, I have always hoped someone would make a new version.<br />Ten years later, after the TV’s powers-that-be’s truly mind-boggling decision to cancel one of my favourite TV series, “Counterpart”, I learned that its creator, Justin Marks, and his wife, Rachel Kondo, would be the showrunners of “Shogun’s” second TV iteration. These two names alone are a guarantee of high quality for me. Three more years have passed since these initial announcements, and the new trailer has just come out. I have to say: it is yet another proof that this will be an amazing piece of television. Przemyślenia Maniaka<p>[PL] W 2010 roku, kiedy miałem wybrać kierunek studiów, wiedziałem jedno: chcę robić coś związanego z językami obcymi. Ostatecznie mój wybór padł na japonistykę, choć w gruncie rzeczy bardzo mało o samej Japonii wiedziałem. Dlatego przed rozpoczęciem roku akademickiego, w ramach małego przygotowania, puściłem sobie serialowego „Szoguna” z 1980 roku (don’t judge). Serial wciągnął mnie niesamowicie i wbił mi do głowy kilka prostych słówek, a także zarysował trochę klimat ówczesnej Japonii — choć oczywiście z zastrzeżeniem, że nie jest dokumentem, a fabularyzowaną wersją wydarzeń przefiltrowaną przez zachodnie spojrzenie. Trzeba jednak przyznać, że narracyjnie dla współczesnego widza to pozycja raczej nie do końca atrakcyjna, więc od zawsze marzyła mi się nowa wersja.<br />Dziesięć lat później, świeżo po anulowaniu jednego z moich ulubionych seriali, „Odpowiednika”, dowiedziałem się, że jego twórca, Justin Marks będzie wraz z Rachel Kondo, prywatnie swoją żoną, pracował nad drugą serialową adaptacją „Szoguna”. Już same te dwa nazwiska są dla mnie gwarancją jakości. Od tych zapowiedzi minęły ponad trzy lata. Właśnie ukazał się nowy zwiastun serialu, który jest kolejnym dowodem na to, że będzie to coś fantastycznego.
