Computer games are only ever going to be a poor substitute for real <a href="https://mstdn.plus/tags/RPGs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RPGs</span></a>, by which I mean exclusively <a href="https://mstdn.plus/tags/TTRPGs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TTRPGs</span></a> and resent the fact that I have to say so.</p>

But, as usual, YMMV. There are certain rig combinations that might require a few tweaks here and there. But, on my end with an acer TravelMate 2020 laptop, I was able to play <a href="https://c.im/tags/StarTrekOnline" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>StarTrekOnline</span></a> (before the graphics update, which my laptop doesn't have), <a href="https://c.im/tags/Neverwinter" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Neverwinter</span></a>, <a href="https://c.im/tags/XCOM2" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>XCOM2</span></a>, <a href="https://c.im/tags/GuildWars" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GuildWars</span></a>, <a href="https://c.im/tags/GuildWars2" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GuildWars2</span></a>, <a href="https://c.im/tags/Wesnoth" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Wesnoth</span></a>, <a href="https://c.im/tags/OpenTTD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>OpenTTD</span></a>, and other games I like.</p><p>If you have the latest rig setup, you should be able to play most games available via Steam, unless they require some anti-cheat software (like <a href="https://c.im/tags/UnchartedWatersOnline" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>UnchartedWatersOnline</span></a>), which is a known issue for such games (some have workarounds, but for UWO, there's no known workaround).</p><p>And if you play games from older OS'es like DOS and Win98, it's easier to set up in Pop!_OS Linux. For example, <a href="https://c.im/tags/Ultima" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Ultima</span></a>, <a href="https://c.im/tags/Populous" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Populous</span></a>, and the classic TSR AD&D games, to mention a few.</p><p>^_^</p>

The GW2 community is most especially nice. The last time I encountered that, other than Guild Wars 1, was Philippine Ragnarok Online way back 2003–2005. Before that, it was from <a href="https://c.im/tags/MUD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>MUD</span></a> games, particularly <a href="https://c.im/tags/AnsalonMUD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>AnsalonMUD</span></a> and <a href="https://c.im/tags/DarkAndShatteredLands" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DarkAndShatteredLands</span></a>.</p><p>In <a href="https://c.im/tags/WorldOfWarcraft" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WorldOfWarcraft</span></a>, the only place you get anything of that sort of fun and generosity, if you chat and play around The Barrens. When they broke that zone in Cataclysm expansion, that kind of spirit disappeared with it.</p><p>Other than those mentioned, the rest are, either you are pretty much solo in every way or it's toxic/far too serious. I play <a href="https://c.im/tags/StarTrekOnline" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>StarTrekOnline</span></a> and <a href="https://c.im/tags/Neverwinter" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Neverwinter</span></a>, it's mostly either zerging or alone. <a href="https://c.im/tags/AdventureQuest3D" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>AdventureQuest3D</span></a>, the same. These are great games, just that, their respective communities are not as kind as what I've experienced in Guild Wars 2, pRO, and MUDs.</p>

Games today are rich in content, no longer something we beat and then move on to the next game. It does indeed eat our time.</p><p>I used to place SecondLife, too, until they banned my account because they want me to pay for something that I didn't use.</p><p>My current game is <a href="https://c.im/tags/GuildWars2" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GuildWars2</span></a> and <a href="https://c.im/tags/Ultima7" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Ultima7</span></a> / <a href="https://c.im/tags/UltimaVII" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>UltimaVII</span></a>. I used to shuffle between GW2 and <a href="https://c.im/tags/StarTrekOnline" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>StarTrekOnline</span></a>, but the latter upgraded their GPU requirement requiring a certain feature that I don't have, unfortunately.</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/Neverwinter" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Neverwinter</span></a> is also a game I play, but I'm not a regular player. The thing I don't like with Cryptic patches are: always 1 GB and above, and slow.</p><p>While <a href="https://c.im/tags/Quaver" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Quaver</span></a> is my relaxation game.
