conserv.nationLike so many others I am watching the current political situation unfold in dismay. I knew that Western society was in decline but I did not expect it to decay so rapidly. Fascism is expanding exponentially and as a result democracy is in peril. Something wicked this way comes. At the heart of conservation is compassion and empathy for existence beyond our own. That philosophy is the path of longterm existence for life and the antipathy is the destruction not only of the natural world but of humanity. Personal, political, and religious ambitions have divided society for far too long. Those who seek power and control have impoverished and decimated the vulnerable and indefensible. And yet there is hope. As we stand at the precipice we must either accept our fate or gain resolve to push back against the rising tide of oppression. While democracy and the institutions that support it still hold we must use all civil means to represent our will, and heavily at that. Stand forward now or be prepared for what comes. . conserv.nation<a class="u-url mention" href="https://pixelfed.social/theccpc" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@theccpc</a> officially launched the <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/vanishingcampaign?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#vanishingcampaign</a> on October 1st, which explores the primary causes of biodiversity depletion in Canada. Human-caused biodiversity loss has, without exaggeration, become a global crisis. The implications to ecosystems, and therefore our existence, are profound. It represents one of the greatest threats to the future of our planet. Clearly the language I’m using to describe the issue is striking and that’s for good reason. The information that supports the dramatic decline in biodiversity is gathered by scientists from a range of fields. Most of the information that they collate never reaches the public and often when it does it is carefully worded to avoid emotional overtones. While necessary and appropriate, the understated nature of the communications often escape public attention. Make no mistake: this is a crisis. For the first time in the history of the planet we are experiencing an anthropomorphic mass extinction event, meaning we are the cause of vast number of plant and animal species disappearing from existence forever. Many of those species that remain face unprecedented challenges and rapid decline in populations. There is hope though, but it requires direct action from all of us. We can first begin by learning about the specific causes and then what we can do to resolve them. That’s where the CCPC campaign comes in. Take the time to read the content in the social media posts, in the publication document, and on our website. Learn about how you can be part of the solutions. Then act. This is our moment.
