After melting #weather at the beginning of March we had several snowfalls last week. One of them was the wet heavy kind, a pain to shovel! But the moisture is important for soils, ecosystems etc. I made a few short videos showing some of the views around the acreage, some of the large areas we have to shovel etc. YouTube links first, Spectra to follow #March #spring #winter #sprinter #Alberta #Canada #snow

March 10, a.m.; Looking across a mound of snow more than waist high- beneath which is a rock garden- toward several other mounds of varying heights, which are all snow. The tallest, farthest back is a couple of metres/6 feet ish, and grew by a few more feet in subsequent days. This mound usually fully melts in early May. Farther back are snowy trees and between the mounds you can see a strip where shovelling has started. The most recent snowfall at that point was around 15cm and very heavy since it was not cold.

In Poland on a first day of spring we drown Marzanna, a representation of winter. Usually it's a doll made of stick, straw and dekorated with paper ribbons, and really colorful. My version is more environmentally friendly, made from whatever was already growing at the river bank. So she's not the prittiest, I know

Two Burrowing Owls share a tender moment with one grooming the other in a field of white daisy-like flowers. Some days serendipity rewards one with something special. This tender moment between these two burrowing owls lasted less than 30 seconds before a noise in the distance spooked them. Had I not decided to take a little detour in my travels, I would have missed this tender exchange as the one groomed the other.

No crocus blooms, a new tulip is up which is one of the freebies from the bulb order, and one of the smallest pots has a daffodil showing.

It has sort of green and white striped leaves and is about 3 inches tall, or 75mm. The photo is taken from ground level, there is a concrete object in the background to the right slightly that is the outside of an old pond. as in built in 1930 pond. This whole area shown was replanted last year from the bulbs dug from it and new bulbs and transplanted irises and others from elsewhere.
