Yohan Yukiya Sese Cuneta 사요한🦣<p>(<a href="https://c.im/tags/rant" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rant</span></a>) I don't like seeing posts about “toxic culture this and that”, but I've reached the point that I can no longer deny one particular thing:</p><p>Toxic <a href="https://c.im/tags/Filipino" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Filipino</span></a> culture: You helped them when they needed help. Even though you can't, they'll beg you so you go out of your way to help them. NOW, when it is you that needs help, NOT A SINGLE ONE of those people will help you. If you beg them, they'll tell you, “You're not the only one going through this and that”.</p><p>Have they forgotten?</p><p>1. When they asked me/us for help, we helped them.<br />2. When I/we told them we really can't, they still begged, so we asked people we know so we can help them. We went out of our way.</p><p>Have they forgotten? Or, are they simply selfish, privileged, ungrateful, earthlings?</p><p>Their argument that, “you're not the only one going through this and that” is 100% invalid, because when they were in need, we went reached out to whoever and became the bridge for them.</p><p>BUT they can not do that for you when it's your turn to ask for help. They have the guts to turn you into a bad, demanding, person.</p><p>Have they forgotten?</p><p>I am not saying that all Filipinos are like that. It is probably common in other cultures as well. But, in the spirit of <a href="https://c.im/tags/ToxicCulture" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ToxicCulture</span></a> “memes” (if we can call it that), it is a common one.</p><p>Don't get me wrong, I am Filipino, I was born, raised, and still living in the <a href="https://c.im/tags/Philippines" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Philippines</span></a>. However, this is totally toxic.</p><p>I'm at that point wherein I will more likely never help anyone ever again. At least not the people in my immediate vicinity. I'd rather help random strangers, or some charity, who deserves to receive help far more than people who turns their backs on you after getting what they want.</p><p>To clarify, I'm only referring to those I/we've helped before, especially those where we had to find ways __for__ them to get help.</p><p>As a famous Filipino proverb goes, (rough translation) “those who don't look to where they came from, are worse than a stinking fish”. And they are indeed worse than a stinking fish.</p><p>Oh, one more thing, some of these people, I did not ask that they pay me back, some I wrote it off because I've seen first hand what they're going through. But, the position is reversed now, and nothing from them whatsoever.
