KBJ's dissent begins on page 209:
https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/22pdf/20-1199_hgdj.pdf

But here's the quote that Sherrilyn Ifill is highlighting (the 101 and 102 notations are footnotes).

"Do not miss the point that ensuring a diverse student body in higher education helps everyone, not just those who, due to their race, have directly inherited distinct disad- vantages with respect to their health, wealth, and well- being. Amici explain that students of every race will come to have a greater appreciation and understanding of civic virtue, democratic values, and our country’s commitment to equality.101 The larger economy benefits, too: When it comes down to the brass tacks of dollars and cents, ensuring diversity will, if permitted to work, help save hundreds of billions of dollars annually (by conservative estimates).102"

But sadly, I have to follow it up with, "in a perfect world." Simply because no one is born racist, sexist, etc.; that behaviour is taught. And people still teach their children racism and sexism, and they grow up to become, say, admissions officers and whatnot, and on top of that, they're teaching their own children the same prejudices that were passed down to them like unto hateful heirlooms.

IMHO only, this is why we need DEI programs now more than ever, especially since this SCOTUS, with a majority made up of activist, radical-right wing, and--lately--demonstrably corrupt "justices," has added nixing Affirmative Action to their already-unconsionable setback of women's repro rights by nixing Roe v Wade.

And let me remind you that three of those "justices"--Gorsuch, Cavanaugh, and Barrett -- were appointed by an illegitimate, corrupt President. Gorsuch particularly was advantaged by McConnell/GOP malfeasance in his own ascent to the high bench.

Remember: If things had gone differently in 2016 after the death of Scalia, the seat held by Gorsuch would be held by Merrick Garland! I'd rather Garland on SCOTUS than at DoJ where he still hasn't finally dropped the hammer on Trump/cohorts.

And Amy Coney Barrett was also a beneficiary of Trump/GOP malfeasance--and rank hypocrisy--by their allowing her confirmation to be *ramrodded* thru the congressional process right after Ginsburg's death (in September 2020 -- about two months out from the election!)

Remember that McConnell/GOP loudly proclaimed that President Obama couldn't appoint a replacement for Scalia (died February 2016) in an election year. There was PLENTY of time for Obama's nominee--again, MERRICK GARLAND--to go thru the congressional process, be confirmed (or not), and be seated. But no, you might remember that McConnell BLOCKED that whole thing for most of 2016.

That's just ONE reason I don't support Republicans, ever. I have others, but that's a big one -- the hypocrisy, on top of the favouritism they show to certain groups that already enjoy privilege.
