Gay Curmudgeon<p>Blend "The Hunger Games," "Star Wars," "The Fifth Element," "Meet Dave," "The Suicide Squad," and probably several others, and one gets StarTrek's "Section 31." Only Michelle Yeoh's talent could save this unoriginal mess. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/michelleyeoh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>michelleyeoh</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/startrek" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>startrek</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/section31" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>section31</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/badwriting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>badwriting</span></a></p>

guyjantic has moved!<p>Reading this article about some really great research done by Sanja Panovska, a German historical/climate (?) scientist. As an Old Curmudgeon there are things about this writing that bother me.</p><p>First: What is with the sudden popularity of contractions among zoomers? When I read these in professional communications I suddenly feel like I&#39;m grading a freshman essay.</p><p>Second: if the &quot;links&quot; you wasted words on &quot;haven&#39;t withstood scientific scrutiny&quot;, then THEY AREN&#39;T LINKS. What the fuck are they doing in your article? </p><p>Come on. I know you&#39;re desperate to drive clicks to your site, but when you lie to do that you kind of make rationality and science cry, and didn&#39;t you get into this field to try to prevent that?</p><p>Final gripe: &quot; It’s tempting to correlate extinctions with events like the Laschamps excursion when they line up temporally...&quot;</p><p> If the events line up temporally, then they are correlated. We don&#39;t have to try. </p><p>&quot;...But the poles have shifted, weakened, and reversed many times and life is still here and still thriving.&quot;</p><p>Do people no longer learn things like &quot;non sequitur?&quot; or maybe they don&#39;t learn what the word &quot;but&quot; means.</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/scicomm" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>scicomm</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/geomagnetism" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>geomagnetism</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/climatescience" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>climatescience</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/science" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>science</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/badwriting" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>badwriting</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/clickbait" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>clickbait</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://www.universetoday.com/166893/41000-years-ago-earths-shield-went-down/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">universetoday.com/166893/41000</span><span class="invisible">-years-ago-earths-shield-went-down/</span></a></p>

guyjantic has moved!<p>A movie that is nothing but a pastiche of stereotypes shoved down our throats, about people behaving in the most stereotyped ways possible, doing exactly what every couple in every romance movie in American history has done, exactly the way they do it, and who find that everything in the world is predestined and manipulated by a loving and unreachable god... is somehow supposed to mean that everyone should do what they want and not follow the crowd.</p><p>[Mary: I&#39;m pretty sure I got the better end of this movie. ]</p><p>Yeah, I&#39;m very, very glad this was an entertaining live-tweet experience, not $20 at a movie theater.</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/TheAdjustmentBureau" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TheAdjustmentBureau</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/badwriting" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>badwriting</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/no" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>no</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/like" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>like</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/reallybad" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>reallybad</span></a></p>

Shantell Powell<p>Last night I needed some light entertainment, so I decided to watch America’s Funniest Home Videos: Animals. For the most part, the videoclips gave me what I needed, but who writes the jokes? Jesus Christ, they are TERRIBLE.
