Sad &amp; Excited at the same time.</p><p>After nearly 18 years of federal service, last day was today. Not fired or RIF'd, just had to get out. My section was / is hiring. They're pissed I'm leaving. As a lawyer I feared being asked to lie to a judge. Something I could never do. My colleagues have done so, and should be disbarred. I come from a family of proud civil servants and veterans, dating back to WWII. This is a very sad day for me but it's for the best, and I'll continue to fight for justice however I can. I have a great opportunity awaiting me in private practice. I'll do my best to fight the good fight from there. To those that manage to fight on, I salute you. Contractors Beware… we are not spared</p><p>I was on a Navy contract working in communications/ media and our contract was just cut with no warning due to “convenience” for the government. They raved about how good our work was but said they are “changing priorities.” My PM for the contracting company said she’s never seen this happen with a contract before. I had been on this sub for months looking for any info on how these DOGE cuts were affecting contractors and wasn’t able to find much info, so I’m putting this out there for those who are curious. Their primary purpose is to provide essential services that sustain society — national defense, public safety, infrastructure, and social programs.Yes, the government should maintain a responsible budget, but that process has been broken for decades and must be fixed in a bipartisan way. However, recklessly dismantling programs will have drastic consequences for the health and safety of all Americans.Under the Trump administration, we are witnessing the systematic erosion of government services and safety nets. Aggressive cuts to federal jobs and programs across multiple agencies are leaving critical services weakened or in disarray.For example, slashing the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget has gutted enforcement of the Safe Drinking Water Act. Cuts to the National Institutes of Health have canceled vital clinical trials. The Department of Agriculture’s elimination of food bank programs will worsen food insecurity nationwide.Defunding FEMA will make it even harder for disaster victims to recover. Shifting these responsibilities to state governments, many of which lack the resources to handle them, will create redundancy and inefficiency, not savings.Cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs will make it harder for those who served our country to access the care and support they need.
