John Schrag<p>Today I learned that people with uteruses are not the only people capable of growing a placenta. Everyone can do it!</p><p>More specifically, everyone has *already* done it. The placenta, as it turns out, is grown by the fetus, not the mother, starting just a few days into pregnancy. (Source: RadioLab). I think that’s a fun fact.</p><p>Now that I know this fun fact, I find myself wondering if I could perform this feat again. Le Technicien underscore<p>JARDINER CONTRE LE FASCISME</p><p>Les Victory Gardens étaient des potagers. Oui, mais des potagers antifa ! En effet, pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale, l'Angleterre a encouragé ses habitant·es a cultiver des potagers PARTOUT. Partout où un morceau de terre paraissait, paf, un potager. Genre, très littéralement. Il y a des exemples de potagers dans des cratères de bombardement, à Londres. Les terrains de sport et de golf ont été transformés en potagers ou en lieu de pâture pour l'élevage. Il y a même eu des potagers dans les jardins de Westminster !<br>Le but était double : limiter les effets du rationnement, et booster le moral de la population civile. Parce que, chose incroyable, ça fait du bien aux gens, de s'occuper d'un petit jardin, et de manger ses légumes. C'est fou.</p><p>Les USA n'ont pas tardé à suivre, malgré la réticence des industriels de l'agriculture (évidemment). Le ministère de l'agriculture a même demandé à Eleanor Roosevelt de ne PAS planter de potager dans les jardins de la maison blanche.</p><p>Bien entendu, ce n'était pas la seule crasse aux USA. Les potagers des personnes noires étaient séparés, et une des causes du manque de légumes est dû au fait que le gouvernement a fait mettre en camp tous les japonais-americains. Or, beaucoup de fermes de fruits et légumes de la côte ouest appartenaient à ces populations.<br>Les autorités états-uniennes ont quand même autorisé les interné·es à cultiver leurs légumes dans les camps. Yay.</p><p>Au Royaume-Uni, le rationnement a pris fin en 1954, presque 10 ans après la fin de la guerre. Et certains Victory Gardens ont continué a être cultivés jusqu'en 1997. Certains existent toujours aux USA.</p><p>Aujourd'hui, des techniques un peu similaires ont émergé, comme forme de lutte anticapitaliste. Par exemple, les Guerrilla Greffeurs, qui greffent des arbres fruitiers sur les arbres de ville, ou la pratique du guerrilla gardening, qui consiste a faire du potager sur les terrains abandonnés, publics ou non.</p><p>Sinon, la photo c'est des haricots que j'ai fait pousser dans mon petit jardin quand j'en avais encore un. Voilà.
