Sam (Ethical Revolution) 🌱✌️<p>Does it matter to you whether or not your mobile network provider pays its fair share of taxes? </p><p><a href="https://ethicalrevolution.co.uk/most-ethical-mobile-phone-networks-revealed/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">ethicalrevolution.co.uk/most-e</span><span class="invisible">thical-mobile-phone-networks-revealed/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/O2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>O2</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/giffgaff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>giffgaff</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/EE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EE</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Three" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Three</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Vodafone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Vodafone</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Tesco" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tesco</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Asda" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Asda</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Sky" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sky</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Lyca" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lyca</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Lebara" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lebara</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Greedflation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Greedflation</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/TaxAvoidance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TaxAvoidance</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/TheOnlyWayIsEthics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TheOnlyWayIsEthics</span></a></p>
Harry W.<p>So, what have we learned:</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/GiffGaff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GiffGaff</span></a> in this case is probably the cheapest. <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Voxi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Voxi</span></a> comes out in second. <br>The "main" carriers are hardly competing with each other, and can have widely different pricing and tariff structures.</p><p>Basically, it pays to shop around.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Phones" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Phones</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Tech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tech</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Shopping" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Shopping</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/iphone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iphone</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/voxi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>voxi</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/GiffGaff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GiffGaff</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/o2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>o2</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/vodafone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vodafone</span></a></p>
Harry W.<p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Voxi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Voxi</span></a> won't let you put money down up front (that i could see). Which is a little annoying. Some back of the napkin maths suggests you end up paying around £44 extra than <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/GiffGaff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GiffGaff</span></a> for the same period... ish.</p>
Harry W.<p>Lets dive into <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Voxi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Voxi</span></a>, a similar cheap network like <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/GiffGaff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GiffGaff</span></a>, that uses the <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Vodafone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Vodafone</span></a> network. </p><p>&gt; £43.75 PCM, unlimited minutes and texts, 45GB of data (winter sale only) - monthly rolling contract, 24 months paying off the phone, as you buy the phone separately through PayPal Finance. </p><p>Ok, more expensive than <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/GiffGaff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GiffGaff</span></a>, but you do get more data and certain apps like WhatsApp are just free. </p><p>However, I couldn't find any info about EU roaming. So... I guess that's not included?</p>
Harry W.<p>Come on then <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/O2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>O2</span></a>, lets see what you can do:</p><p>&gt; £51.05 PCM, unlimited minutes and texts, 25GB of data</p><p>Ok, better than <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/EE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EE</span></a>, but still not great. £13 more expensive *for the same network*. </p><p>I also can't tell if there's EU roaming, as the website is vague. But they're incredibly loud about the mid contract rises (wonder why that is)</p><p>&gt; Will rise to £52.85 in April this year, and then £54.65 in April 2026</p><p>So by the end of the 25 months, you're paying £17 more than <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/GiffGaff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GiffGaff</span></a> for the same network</p>
Harry W.<p>Next up is <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/GiffGaff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GiffGaff</span></a> - which uses the <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/o2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>o2</span></a> network under the hood anyway (and it's who I'm with). </p><p>&gt; £37.05 PCM, unlimited minutes and text, 25GB of data, 5G (fastest available) - 18 month carrier contract, 24 month contract for iPhone, as you buy the phone separately through Klarna. </p><p>For an extra £5 a month, there's no 18 month carrier contract. And has EU roaming up to 5GB of data. Nice.</p><p>So that's what, £17 cheaper than <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/EE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EE</span></a>? </p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Phones" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Phones</span></a></p>
Harry W.<p>Looking at Phone contracts for my partner. I've been with <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/GiffGaff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GiffGaff</span></a> for a little while, and am pretty happy. But i didn't realise just *how much cheaper* they are compared to the standard highstreet brands!</p><p>£20 cheaper than <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/EE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EE</span></a> or <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/O2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>O2</span></a> for the same Phone and a better deal. Just... wha?!</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Phone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Phone</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/iPhone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iPhone</span></a></p>
Francis<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://toot.wales/@DavidTanner" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>DavidTanner</span></a></span> far as i know <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/giffgaff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>giffgaff</span></a> doesnt support VoWIFI/WiFi Calling only O2 pay monthly and the only MVNO that use O2 network Sky/Tesco support VoWIFI/WiFi Calling. No VoWIFI/WiFi Calling on O2 Pay and Go either. All other UK networks even pay and go support WiFi Calling just O2 been the odd one out. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/O2UK" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>O2UK</span></a></p>
