Eric 🇧🇪🥾🚆🚊🌼🐑🐞📷#20jours#20souvenirs - Jour 2 : le marché dominical de la Batte à LiègeAujourd'hui, pour ce <a href="https://friends.gayfr.social/search?tag=20jours20souvenirs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#20jours20souvenirs</a> je vous emmène sur la Batte à Liège.Le marché de la Batte vu depuis le pont des Arches en août 2019Ce marché qui se tient tous les dimanches depuis 1561 est une véritable institution dans la cité Ardente. Sur 10.000 m² plus de quatre cents marchands de légumes, de vêtements, de fleurs et autres camelots, il s'étend sur les quais qui bordent la Meuse sur deux bons kilomètres.Il est tellement important que le tracé du (futur) tram a été élaboré avec un itinéraire spécifique pour le dimanche matin étant donné qu'il ne pourra pas passer par le quai de la Batte lorsque se tient la Batte.La Batte, c'est une fréquentation de 4 à 5 millions de visiteurs annuels qui viennent de toute la région et même au delà des frontières; en effet, nombreux sont les néerlandais, allemands, flamands et même français qui viennent flâner (ça, c'est vite dit car sur le coup de onze heures, c'est parfois tellement fréquenté que ça bouchonne!) sur ce gigantesque marché à ciel ouvert.Une importante population d'origine italienne vit à Liège et par conséquent, on trouvera aussi aisément tous les produits qui fleurent bon le soleil et le sud. Le poulet rôti du dimanche pourra être trouvé sans peine.Lorsque j'étais enfant, il arrivait qu'on y aille avec mes parents car on pouvait aussi acheter chiens, chats et autres animaux de compagnie mais aussi des poules. En 2019, date où la photo a été prise, il y avait encore des poules et des lapins mais des chiens et des chats, il n'y en a plus sur la Batte même mais on peut en trouver dans les animaleries situées sur le quai.Si la plupart des marchés hebdomadaires ont tendance à décliner, celui de la Batte reste bien vivant.Il est situé à deux pas du cœur historique de la ville de Liège qui fut la capitale de la principauté du même nom fondée par Notger en 980 et qui demeurera indépendante jusqu'en 1789. Cette année-là, une révolution renversa le pouvoir, il y eut quelques tentatives de restauration mais finalement, le territoire de la principauté sera rattaché à la France jusqu'en 1815 et le congrès de Vienne qui attribua les territoires qui deviendraient la Belgique moderne aux Pays-Bas après la défaite de Napoléon à Waterloo (au sud de Bruxelles). On ne manquera pas de visiter le coeur historique qui a gardé le caractère médiéval de certaines rues étroites comme En Neuvice... mais ça, ce sera pour une autre fois!Mes souvenirs personnels de ce marché, sont les parfums et odeurs qui se mélangeaient, l'odeur du poulet rôti, l'adoption d'un chien avec lequel nous avons repris le bus pour rentrer à la maison dans la commune voisine d'Herstal. C'est aussi, un souvenir avec ma marraine, qui était aussi ma mamie, où un dimanche après-midi, nous avions pris le bateau qui ramenait les touristes néerlandais vers Maastricht et avions repris le train pour rentrer.
