There is the joke that mathematicians only know 0, 1, and 2 (since higher numbers are rarely used in higher mathematics, contrary to the believe that mathematics is just arithmetic), and it's at least somewhat true for me (data are from all my lecture transcripts of my first two and a half semesters studying mathematics):

Digit: Total number Percentage
0: 7457 20.017 %
1: 11560 31.030 %
2: 10049 26.974 %
3: 3207 8.608 %
4: 1371 3.680 %
5: 976 2.620 %
6: 901 2.419 %
7: 547 1.468 %

Beyond #causality

#Mathematics shows that understanding isn't just about finding causes, but about recognizing complex structural relationships that connect mind and nature. It shows that the mental and physical worlds aren't separate - they're different aspects of the same reality.

So, stop seeing #science and #humanities as competing worldviews. They're complementary ways of exploring our interconnected world, with mathematics as the translator between them.

After 20 Years, Math Couple Solves Major Group Theory Problem
quantamagazine.org/after-20-ye

"In 2003, a German graduate student named Britta Späth (opens a new tab) encountered the McKay conjecture, one of the biggest open problems in the mathematical realm known as group theory. At first her goals were relatively modest: She hoped to prove a theorem or two that would make incremental progress on the problem, as many other mathematicians had done before her."

Dedekind’s Subtle Knife
mathenchant.wordpress.com/2025

"The modern era of mathematics began on November 24, 1858, when mathematician Richard Dedekind proposed the first firm foundation for the real number system and, even more importantly, established a new way to think about – or maybe I should say a new way to avoid thinking about – the ultimate nature of mathematical reality."
