(Thorp riet damals seinen Kunden, ihre Investitionen bei Madoff zu liquidieren - teilte seine Erkenntnisse jedoch nicht den Aufsichtsbehörden mit.)Thorp hatte ab 1955 einen 'computer' mit elf transistoren gebaut, der voraussagen beim Roulette erlaubte. es war der erste tragbare computer.die genaue beschreibung des geraetes und die entwicklungsgeschichte dahinter: <a href="https://www.cs.virginia.edu/~evans/thorp.pdf" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no">https://www.cs.virginia.edu/~evans/thorp.pdf</a>computer kann man das geraet aber meines erachtens nicht nennen, obwohl es im MIT medialab als erster tragbarer computer ausgestellt wird. er hat keinen sensor und war vollkommen analog aufgebaut. er wurde ueber einen schalter gesteuert, der mit dem grossen zeh des roulettespielers verbunden war, um startsignale bzw. einen timer zu starten. ueber einen ohrhoerer lieferte er bestimmte toene, anhand dessen der zahlenbereich angegeben wurde, auf den es sich zu setzen lohnen wuerde.eine genau beschreibung findet man hier: <a href="https://www.cs.virginia.edu/~evans/thorp.pdf" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no">https://www.cs.virginia.edu/~evans/thorp.pdf</a>Thorp ging mit seiner beating blackjack-computer-programm- sowie roulette-idee anfangs zu claude shannon, dem vater der informationstheorie. (dessen signalabtasttheorem mussten wir im ersten semester in theoretischer informatik studieren.)Shannons sekretaerin wollte ihn erst nicht vorlassen. schliesslich wurden ihm ein paar minuten zugestanden, woraus ein mehrstuendiges gespraech wurde.nachdem die casinos jegliche technischen hilfen beim roulette verboten hatten, entwickelte er eine investmentstrategie fuer call-options, die fuer ihn sehr erfolgreich war, die aber nur solange funktionierte bis das sogenannte Black-Scholes-modell veroeffentlicht (und am markt eingesetzt) wurde, das nach aehnlichen, aber mathematisch fundierteren prinzipien funktioniert.*nachdenklich hat mich gemacht, dass Thorp, keine covid Impfung genommen hat, wie er gegen ende des interviews zum thema risikoanalyse erwaehnte. er trug nur maske, vermied menschenansammlungen und isolierte sich. er wusste, dass ca. 20% der 80-jaehrigen nach einer infektion sterben wuerden, ein risiko, das durch eine impfung auf ein zehntel davon verkleinert werden konnte. jedoch vertraute er wohl der mRNA-impfung nicht genug.*das mit dem weight-lifting, gym und marathon usw. ist meine erachtens keine Garantie um ein langes leben zu erreichen. man weiss von Roosevelt, der, als er gefragt wurde, was er diesbezueglich als empfehlung geben koennte, antwortete: "sicher kein sport!" abgesehen von Thorps fitness-allueren ist das interview ueber weite Strecken aeusserst interessant. er spricht auch das klima bzw. co2-problem, nennt Ray Dalio als beste quelle fuer geopolitischen antzipaation, erklaert externalitaeten (not unexpected attribution; a situation in which the cost or benefit of an economic activity is not accounted for within the market, but rather affects third parties), gibt investment-advice, nennt neben Warren Buffett noch weitere wichtige investment genies wie Kenneth C. Griffins Citadel LLC (hedge fund), sowie lesenswerte buecher, u.a.
