I love when a showcases a song that I probably should have already known about but it somehow passed me by. Of course I know is a legend, but I've never really delved deeply into his work - so I was surprised to hear this featured in the wonderful to a great film - (Iceland's submission for for an this year.)

Anyone remember Annie Haslam and Renaissance? They were a part of my teen years listening to Album Oriented Radio (AOR) ... I would get excited when one of their songs would come on - which was rare because they tended to be 8 minute long art-rock numbers. I listen to her now and think how she paved the way for Kate Bush, Stevie Nicks, even Heart - but her music is largely forgotten. And I just discovered that she is still out there singing and making music ... at 77!

Norma Tanega (1939 – 2019) was an American folk singer-songwriter, painter, and experimental musician. She had a hit with the single "Walkin' My Cat Named Dog" in 1966, reaching #22 on the US charts. The song tells the story of living in a New York City apartment building that did not allow dogs; instead she owned a cat which she named "Dog" and took for walks.

While traveling in England to promote her music she met Dusty Springfield resulting in a 5-year relationship. Springfield covered several of her songs during this time.

While Tanega failed to follow up her early pop success, she never stopped making music, and developed a cult following that continues to see her music appreciated and covered by many artists.

Jim Croce 🕯️ I Got A Name 🕯️

I have to admit I don't think about Jim Croce very often - but I was amazed when I learned that he passed away on this date in 1973! I wasn't even out of highschool yet. Then I saw the list of songs he sang ... So many were so familiar from his very short career. This song was released as a single the day after he died in a plane crash. It reached #10 on the Billboard charts.
