transform-social<p>I recently finished reading "The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet" by Becky Chambers. </p><p>It was a quick and fun read. I liked the thoughts on war and peace, the criticism of fundamentalist faith, the union of multiple alien species in the Galactic Commons (GC), and the fact that they favored peaceful coexistence over profit in the end. The descriptions of the polyamorous culture of the Aandrisk (including the concepts of chosen families) were also quite heartwarming.</p><p>Given how often this book is recommended in the context of Solarpunk, I was a bit disappointed that it did not offer any new economic concepts. Nothing flashy, but that's also why it's likeable. It's a series of stories and poems, most of them with a quiet mood focused on dialogue and thought.</p><p>The book I'd say is about people who cares, and their decisions to act in ways small and local, but ultimately meaningful, aware of their responsibilities and values.</p><p>A quietly inspiring <a href="https://fribygda.no/tags/solarpunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>solarpunk</span></a> anthology.</p>

tivasykso, i bought this portable 60w solar panel (46 cad taxes included), and it already has this box of circuitry attached (probably just a dc-dc convertor, idk, the doc-tion is lame) with an 18v output (and usb outlets that i ignore for the moment). <br><br>the power outlet is a coaxial IEC 60130-10 5.1mm/2.1mm «male» connector that americans call «female barrel connector» (i admire and fear americans for that, a nation of great inventors but terrible, terrible engineers). also, the doc-tion to the solar panel never ever mentions the format/size of the connector so one has to either guess or buy &amp; try, lol (there's another great nation out there bent on not doing documentation right). <br><br>anyway, i have only had to cut up two extra cables i had around to solder a simple female-to-female cable (again, «engineering»!) and had fun charging my humble «power station» — takes about a day under the moderate spring sun. still, usable and useful for camping, i guess.<br><br>this was just to get the first taste of things. next step will have to be: figure out the simplest (and non-destructive) way to mount approx. 300w of solar panels on my cabanon, add a charging controller and a car battery (cheap!) and maybe power the pool pump.<br><br><a class="hashtag" href="https://mycrowd.ca/tag/solarpunk" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#solarpunk</a>
