My decision to post this was based in large part on it including one of my own all-time favorite recordings, the debut eponymous album by The Cars. “Rocket ‘88’” by Jackie Brenston and His Delta Cats was not only one of the key records in rock 'n' roll history but it was also the introduction for most of us to Ike Turner. The Library of Congress can't do everything at once; but it is still surprising that "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" by Gene Autry wasn't already in the registry. Then there's "Pieces of Africa" by the Kronos Quartet. It features the original arrangements and the same or similar instrumental lines as on the recordings by The Cars. It differs from the original records by centering on female vocals and by playing familiar Cars riffs on different instruments. Dinty Child, for instance, revs it up on rhythm tubes, while Zack Hickman puts pedal to the metal on such instruments as peckhorn and stylophone. "New wave," in this instance, has more to do with The Cars, as one terrific example, and less to do with what 1980s/MTV kids call "new wave." Rubber Rodeo was quite good and it had a hit single, "The Hardest Thing."</p><p>SUSS takes the ambient country/western idea to completion. I have only heard "Ghost Box: Expanded."
