Gulotta Finding wood is one of those things I had no idea how to do. (And I still don’t know much about the different kinds of wood) I’m at the “make construction lumber work for me” stage of #woodworking. (Probably won’t go much further)
However I quite enjoyed this video on what the different kinds of stores are, what the experiences are like, and how the prices and products compare.

to do it using hand tools only so it seems plywood is out of the question
(searching online said it would damage my Japanese hand saw). So I’m looking at
solid wood instead and getting pine hobby boards that I won’t have to plane
seems to be the easiest and cheapest alternative. The shelves will mostly hold
records and books and the largest will probably be 30x30x75cm but stacked on
other shelves. Am I in for a bad time?
Der Leimpinsel und -spender kam jetzt etwas zu spät. Ich habe den Schubkasten wie zuvor die Leisten mit einem kleinen Kunstoffspachtel verleimt. Die neuen Sachen werde ich dann beim nächsten Projekt ausprobieren. Gespannt bin ich auf den Silikonpinsel.
Die Schubkasten-Innenseiten habe ich bis zur Körnung 120 hochgeschliffen. Jetzt fühlt es sich glatt und seidig an und ich bin schon sehr neugierig, wie das Hartwachsöl die Maserung anfeuern wird.
Während der Trocknungszeit habe ich nochmal alle Seiten der Tischbeine geschliffen. Es gab noch Lackreste, die wie Flecken auf der Oberfläche waren. Mit dem 60er Granat im Getriebegang war das aber auch kein Problem.
Der Schubkasten kam gut aus der Verleimung. Nicht ganz rechtwinkelig - in der Diagonalen habe ich eine Differenz von ca. 2 mm - aber bei der alten Kiste habe ich es nicht besser hinbekommen. Ist auch egal.
Die Laufflächen musste ich etwas Nachhobeln und die Ecken verputzen. Die oberen Kante der Seiten musste ich auch Nachhobeln. Sie waren wohl schon mal nachbearbeitet aber das auch nur sehr grob und sehr wellig.
Jetzt sind sie gerade abgerichtet und haben ca. 2 mm Luft zur Tischplatte. Vor dem Abrichten standen sie etwas über das Tischgestell drüber, was unweigerlich zu einem Verkanten mit der Tischplatte geführt hätte. Ich vermute, dass ich die Laufleisten etwas zu hoch angesetzt habe bzw. die Nutzapfen der alten Laufleisten nicht klassisch gedrittelt waren. 
Dann wieder Schleifen. dieses Mal mit 80er im Exzentermodus: es geht in Richtung Feinschliff. Die fehlenden Führungsleisten habe ich dann als letztes eingeleimt, nachdem ich die endgültige Schukastenbreite hatte.
Ich überlege, ob ich die Tischplatte wie zuvor auf das Gestell nageln soll oder ob ich sie mit kleinen Dominodübeln verleimen soll. 
Aber vorher muss ich noch: schleifen.

I made a walnut frame for one of my Celtic knotwork frog prints! This frame fits 7cm square prints (the format Open Press Project uses for their exhibitions).
Manchmal, wenn ich abends nochmal in die Werkstatt komme, höre ich ein leises Wispern aus dem Leimkocher. Es ist schwer zu verstehen, hört sich aber an wie: „Zusammenhalt ist das Wichtigste überhaupt!“ 
Took a long weekend to do whatever the heck I want to do….which turns out to be repairing/refinishing an wooden antique tool chest and vegetable gardening.

I'm pushing myself to try different shapes as I got stuck carving the same old spoons again and again. What you see here is an asymmetric eating spoon. It's either left or right handed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Oh, and I threw a finial on there for good measure!

The newly completed, very simple edge-grain cherrywood cutting board, now soaking in some mineral oil.
This is 13 one-by-twos of length 16 inches. By “one-by-two” I mean ¾×1½ inches, of course. But sanded down. I haven't measured the actual thickness. I didn't get it perfectly even, actually. Maybe I will perfect it over time.
The wood wasn't perfect. There was one insect hole, for instance, despite that the wood had gotten past an inspector. And one piece had saw marks and definitely should have been rejected by an inspector, but I put it on the end. I covered such flaws with Liquid Glass and/or NicPro epoxy, then sanded it all down. Liquid Glass epoxy actually has FDA approval for direct food contact. NicPro epoxy does not, but I am practically sure it is equally food safe. The issue is whether hazardous chemicals would leach from the cured plastic.
The glue I used for the boards was Franklin Titebond III, which has FDA approval for "indirect food contact". In other words, for gluing together cutting boards. It also is DAMN GOOD GLUE for gluing together wood you are planning to clamp with pipe clamps.
I used a whole bunch of Bessey pipe clamps of the old fashioned sort you tighten with a socket wrench or similar. I did not bother to plane or sand the boards, because Titebond III makes them wet and pliable and the pipe clamps mash them into each other real damn good.

Another job out of the ordinary. Tomorrow I'm going to look at two sideboards 8made from particle-board) that are being given away here in town. I'll then take them apart and use the material to build a router table and fence.
