When I was in grade five, the teacher stepped out of the classroom for a bit and a boy started chasing me around trying to hurt me. I was running and screaming in terror. When the teacher came back in the room, he saw me running, but not my bully who'd sat down right away.
I was told to report for detention.
Later on, the teacher apologized to me because he'd found out what happened. It was the first time a grownup ever apologized to me.
I'd come to believe that no adult would ever believe me.
Normalize apologizing to children. Normalize admitting to them when you are wrong.

@Shanmonster In a book about the history of modern British commercial fishing, the authors note that Shetland Islanders treat their children very well and listen to them and talk to them as if they were adults. It was found that, in all of Britain, the fishermen who most quickly adopted new ideas and ways of fishing were the Shetland fishermen and this was because they were brought up to be open and were listened to by adults, so they did the same when people came to them with new ideas about fishing.
