Will Donald Trump win the election? It still seems highly doubtful. All historical signs suggest that Biden will win by a landslide.

Will the assassination attempt sway some "swing" voters to cast sympathetic ballots for him? Maybe. Some people usually make emotional decisions when voting. That can't be helped or stopped.

Will Trump lie about this horrible event and turn it into a story about his greatness and willingness to sacrifice himself that he tells for the rest of his life? Absolutely. That's what he does.

Was the shooter a Republican? The fact he registered as a Republican doesn't mean anything. At 20 years of age he hasn't lived long enough to have established a party loyalty. Many people actually register as members of the other party in order to cast poison votes in opposing party elections. I'm sure his life will be investigated and dissected for years to come, and maybe one day we'll be confident in what his true political beliefs were.

All that said, the real danger for America from this tragic episode is that attention will be diverted away from #Project2025 long enough for voters to forget about it. The news media was just barely beginning to mention it, and they'll milk the assassination attempt and the GOP convention for as long as they can while ignoring the real issues.

No one should endorse or condone political violence in my opinion, not even political violence against someone who organized a violent attack on Congress. Trump should go to jail for his crimes. If we give in to HIS tactics and behavior we are no better than him.
