@WestLawns @amici It bears mentioning that about 20L of total rinse water is needed to rinse a teracotta bench, after smearing (even better yet, gently scrubbing with a bristly brush) about 250 to 350ml of 10% HCl gel on it (2 or 3 applications and rinsings), depending on the filthiness of the bench. A hard, driving rain is not likely sufficient to completely rinse such a bench. Whatever bench gets cleaned should be near enough to a source of rinse-water.
Anyone fearing that the public will be burnt by the acid - no they won't: when the color changes from the gel contacting/mixing with the filth, it will no longer burn anyone - completely changing from its original blue to grey.
