Medicaid, the US program that provides healthcare coverage to low income people, has been shut down.
"White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, speaking at a news conference Tuesday, said, "I'll check back on that and get back to you," when asked if Medicaid payments were affected by the Office of Management and Budget order.
Murphy fired back at Leavitt in a tweet, writing, "72 MILLION people rely on this health insurance and you have to get back to us?!? Are you f****** kidding me?"
"Medicaid reimbursement portals were down Tuesday in all 50 states on the heels of a funding freeze ordered by the Trump administration of federal grants and loans, Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said.
Sen. Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat, separately said that his state's "Medicaid payment system has been turned off."
"Doctors and hospitals cannot get paid," Murphy wrote in a tweet. "Discussions ongoing about whether services can continue."
@shansterable it's rather plain that these next four years are, at an absolute minimum, intended to be used to cull the herd. Not much would convince me otherwise. And the more atrocities the general public accepts the worse it's going to get.
@shansterable Medicaid has not been shut down. Their websites were inaccessible in all 50 states, but the administration has since said they will get them running in short order and that the freeze will not apply to Medicaid. Meanwhile, a federal judge has blocked the freeze temporarily.
@shansterable Trump & his gang are looting the American people's honeypots. They need to resign & go to Russia.
