I like fidgeting. I shake one leg. I click pens. I pop gum. I snap my fingers. I open and close the battery cover on remote controls until they break. I open and close the stapler on my desk. I put the staple remover on and finger and squeeze it over and over. Most of these things I notice I'm doing well after starting and it doesn't feel good to stop.
@katrinakatrinka Ooh. I did a lot of those back in school, and often I was told so stop because it was annoying. We had no idea then I'm autistic, but yes, it didn't feel good to stop.
Sometimes I'm wondering what my school years would've been like if we knew already. I guess I didn't have to force myself to stop doing things because it wasn't "right", and school life would've been easier without the social pressure.

I had no idea I might be on the spectrum until the past year or two, but there's a lot in my family so diagnosed.

Well, it certainly runs in families. Many of us who realise late in life, can see it in family members who certainly didn't realise it themselves.

I think for me it was that the diagnosis was much more narrow in the '80s when my siblings were diagnosed.
I think it wasn't well recognized in girls.

Definitely not!. It's still not great now, but at least they are beginning to recognise that the presentation is different.
