Lithium is one of the big metals in demand because of its use in batteries. But, there is constant improvement with alternatives.
An example is sodium batteries which show promise for several applications where they could be used instead of lithium (and potentially reduce the demand for lithium). The article mentions some other battery technologies too - but getting away from lithium and rare earth metals helps a lot of countries.

I can't help but wonder if we could shift ebikes to Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo4), then all the negative press about fire risk would just go away like a bad dream.
For example, I can't ride my ebike to see PWHL hockey (yes, our hockey arena bans ebikes on the entire property! UL listed? they don't care!)
