Any American who has spent an hour or two in front of the idiot box over the past seven decades must've known something of Emmy award winning and trailblazing tv hall of fame personality who has died this week at age 93.

Walters was America's first female Network , her career in front of the camera spans from her 60's daytime stints on 's then fledgling with Hugh Downs, to being parodied late nights in the 1970's on SNL as Bawbwa WaWa by Gilda Radner, proving she was no mere prime time presence.

After a decade on the The Today Show, the upper west side scene survivor and Sarah Lawrence grad found a home at ABC, where she co-hosted the news with Harry Reasoner from 1976 to 1978 and by 1979, Walters was the first host of the evening news magazine show 20/20 with whom she was associated with into the 21st century.

More recently daytime tv viewers may know her for her long stint producing and co-hosting from 1997 until retiring circa 2014. Her post Oscars were also Neilsen ratings hits, like one of her final ones where she received a lap dance from Hugh Jackman in 2009.

Throughout her career she managed many scoops and exclusives including her highest rated televised tête-à-tête, that one with Monica Lewinsky, watched by 74 million. In 1977 she amazed viewers by getting Egypt's Anwar Sadat and Israeli PM Menachem Begin together for a joint interview. Walter's oft chiding chats with world leaders included such controversial figures as Fidel Castro, The Shah of Iran, Muammar al-Khaddafi, Hugo Chavez and Vladimir Putin, as well as sit down interviews with every US President we've had since Nixon.
