@OccasionalDucks having an EV which runs quietly has shown me how much noise is generated by the road surface. Concrete awful and the practice of spraying a layer of tar then clippings almost as bad. Yet many surfaces give very low amounts of tyre noise

Yes, it was really noticeable on the electric pool cars we had in my previous job. One of the many reasons why swapping ICE vehicles out for EVs is not “the” solution.
