Roger Moore
JFC, the Trump Administration is the Peter Principle and the Dunning-Kruger effect rolled up in one. Now they're saying nobody who depends on Social Security would complain about one little missing check.

https://www.axios.com/2025/03/21/social-security-lutnick-doge-checks

Roger Moore
I'm starting the mass spec part of a big project (by my standards, at least) today. I still have one batch of samples left to prep- I'll be juggling the instrument and sample prep next week- and the mass spec will be going until the end of the month even if everything goes perfectly. Even though I know I've been careful with the sample prep and there are replicates available if something goes really wrong, hitting "start" on the first sample list is always stressful.

Roger Moore
Last night, I dreamed about a special car designed to climb ultra-steep streets. It was in the style of a documentary, with views from outside the car with a voice-over. There was no explanation why cities would have streets so steep most cars couldn't use them, or how those streets were paved. Mixed in were digressions about the marital problems of former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa (who recently went through a messy IRL divorce).
#DreamDiary

I'd also like to give a gigantic raspberry to Gov. Phil Murphy of New Jersey for giving the Trump Administration cover by complaining about congestion pricing. We need to stop putting the interests of suburban commuters above the interests of actual residents when making decisions like these. It's an ugly remnant of racist "White Flight", and it needs to stop yesterday.

How not to pedestrian friendly.
This is a great example of "pedestrian friendly" infrastructure designed by drivers failing its mission. It's an ok pedestrian crossing- the crossing is raised to sidewalk level so pedestrians don't have to step down, and the crossing serves as a speed bump- but the call button for the crossing lights obstructs the sidewalk. The crossing is designed to help drivers who parked in the parking lot to the left, not pedestrians coming from the nearby rail station.

People who feel overwhelmed by the sheer scale of awful stuff Trump and his minions are trying to foist on us: you don't have to deal with everything yourself. Every group he's targeting will fight back. If you're in one of those groups, focus fully on defending your group and don't feel guilty for looking out for yourself. If you aren't in one of those groups, find one you feel like helping and lend a hand. Trust other people to fight other battles. Teamwork is how we'll get through this.
