The "#GoingDark" scare tactic so many politicians and journalists just blindly accept is laughable.
Law enforcement has NEVER before had this much access and clarity: All the connection metadata, location data from mobile phones, personal data sitting in third party clouds, clear text email sitting in third party servers... which they can easily access and analysis is sheer astonishing
It has never before been so bright for law enforcement

For citizens privacy & security are 2 sides of the same wall:
#Privacy to keep private things private
#Security to keep uninvited eyes and agents out
Security is how privacy looks like from the outside and privacy is how security looks like from the inside.
You can not "balance" the two, diminish either will diminish the other
