#SarlaccPit is a word #game similar to the classic #Hangman & also inspired by #HangTrek as played here on #Mastodon. One user hosts by choosing a word or phrase from #StarWars & then runs polls with choices of letters. The winner of each poll is used as a collective guess from those playing. The results are revealed & then a new poll is run until someone guesses the result.
Suppose the host chooses “The Force” as the answer to the puzzle. The puzzle would initially start as:

Choices might be:
A as in Alderaan
E as in Endor
O as in Onderon
U as in Utapau
If E wins the poll, the result would be:
_ _ E / _ _ _ _ E
Then a new poll would run. This repeats until someone guesses. Then that person runs the next puzzle.

To host a #SarlaccPit puzzle:
1. Choose a word or phrase that is #StarWars -related. Post the first puzzle with all blanks using the #SarlaccPit tag. Posts should be public.
2. Stick to Galactic Basic (English). Alien & proper names are OK.
3. Include tags like #StarWars #games #puzzles to allow new users to discover the puzzles in progress. Also mention @starwars, which will boost the poll.
4. Run polls until someone guesses. If the host accrues 10 wrong answers, they win.
5. Provide 4 options in each poll.
6. Each poll should include at least one letter that occurs in the answer to the puzzle.
7. List incorrect guesses of letters revealed not to occur (“Wrong guesses: X, Q”).
8. When you guess, use a CW. Some players like to challenge themselves. Your wrong guess may be a hint. Be sure to provide the text, not just an image. The host may not be able to see the image.
9. When the right answer is guessed, the host should post the result and the winner using the #SarlaccPitSolved tag. Also reply to this thread to keep a list of previous phrases that have already been used.
10. The winner hosts the next puzzle or may alternately nominate another host, though the other is under no obligation.

- It’s a slow-paced game. Use long time periods for polls, usually 12 or 24 hours, to give people in different timezones the opportunity to play.
- If a phrase contains anything other than letters, supply them at the beginning. For example, for “C-3PO”:

For “Padmé”:
_ _ _ _ _
However, when the E is guessed, supply the accent:
_ _ _ _ É
It’s hard to put an accent over an underscore.
- Use slashes (/) between words. This is especially helpful with longer phrases.
- All Star Wars (canon & legends) content is eligible.
- The purpose is to have fun. Rules are somewhat limited. It’s up to the host how to run each puzzle.
- Boost when you vote. It helps others discover the game.
- The guesser is only responsible for supplying text that matches the pattern, not identifying where it comes from.
- The host ought to be prepared to provide a reference link (eg #Wookieepedia) in case of obscure answers.
