(And indeed, if I follow the link, there is more there.)

Shouldn't federation mean that the entire thread can be viewed through whatever instance you're on?

I get that the full thread may not yet be loaded locally into the server I'm using, but once a local user is trying to see it, shouldn't the server retrieve the full thread? We're not talking about massively long threads here, I'm seeing it on (guesstimating) 20-30 replies.
