@MudMan He also said that he was very hesitant to keep making more Knives Out movies because he wanted them to have endings and the only way that he was okay doing it was if they could all be standalone films with their own contained story. He's said he hates that Glass Onion has to have the "A Knives Out Movie" subtitle because he wanted it to stand on its own.
As for Star Wars, I don't disagree, but I think that's part of why he could play a critical role in Hollywood's future. He has a unique and distinct perspective but is also willing to work within the system that we currently have to bring that perspective to as many people as possible, which for better or worse is franchise films and sequels right now. In my mind, not to overdramatize things, he's fighting the system from within.
