Listening to something and realizing it's influenced the music you make without even realizing it before - today's exhibit - DAMN, the sound of this song has influenced several songs I've written
There were plenty of bass players before Les Claypool, and Les' stuff in and out of Primus has been incredible with some wild funk stuff, both more standard and not. But there was nothing that sounded like this before Frizzle Fry, and there won't ever be anything like this again. This shit is 100% original Claypool insanity, and we're lucky to have lived through this. The 1990s were fucking MAGICAL

@jake4480 me too. Les taught me that it's ok to sing with a weird voice... and gave my band ringing endorsements when we started so that was cool.
@grechaw whoa amazing!! Still have your stuff up somewhere?
@jake4480 well aside from demos kicking around, we never recorded our songs but we're still the same mad folx doing the improv sessions today at EARSTUbe channel. Les was a really good mentor to me though I think he'd be surprised to hear that.
@grechaw oh, awesome. Gonna check this out! That's so cool. It's so amazing how people affect our lives in ways and they might not even know.
@jake4480 you're a punk lover.. know who deserves a shout out from Sonoma County is Mr Ralph Spight and Victim's Family. He was also great encouragement for us.
@grechaw oh awesome - hadn't heard of these guys! Adding to the queue to hear.
@jake4480 Thanks for reminding me about this! Time to send this to my nephew who is 5 and will not stop singing it.
@jake4480 @grechaw Have you ever watched their Woodstock set from '94? It's what made me a Primus fan. Kids just don't get how fucking new music sounded in that era. https://youtu.be/7JUVbBRLxo4?feature=shared
@rtw @grechaw I've seen bits and pieces of this - I should watch the whole thing. When I was in middle school in the 90s, I knew this dude who wore Primus shirts, and I was vaguely familiar with their stuff here and there, Mud, Jerry, Winona, South Park theme, etc. The big ones. But then later I got more into those first 3 records of theirs. But the key is, I need to be really high to do them. Helps a ton. Like, REALLY obscenely next level high. It's totally made for that. Nailed it today. hahaha
