Cool blog post on Leaded Solder (one of my favorite blogs), where they make a space shooting game with Nintendo Family BASIC on the Famicom.

From unboxing to programming to the finished video of the game on YouTube, everything is carefully pictured, linked and documented-- an amazing post that really shows why I dig this blog so much.

Leaded Solder · Let’s Make A Space Shooter With Nintendo Family BASICNintendo’s Famicom game console had an implementation of the BASIC programming language available for the system. The Family BASIC cartridge is studied, and a space shooter game is programmed with it.

@jake4480 Great stuff! Leaded Solder has been an inspiration for me documenting my projects too. Nice breezy style with good photos!! Always helpful.

@bgrier haha right?? One of the coolest blogs I've come across- I knew it had to have other fans out there! So thorough. Incredible stuff

@jake4480 Totally! I think I referenced his stuff when I was rebuilding/modernizing my TS-1000. Sure, it slows you down taking notes and photos, but the end result is usually worth it. Nice little writeup of a thing you did. :)

Jake in the desert

@bgrier absolutely. And other people can see it and maybe get ideas of their own. This is how the internet is SUPPOSED to work haha

@jake4480 exactly. Good reasons for inspiration.

Lately I've been staying away from pure 'blogging' as it's been expensive, expectation-laden, time-consuming to do the former...

Thinking of just moving everything from WP to something simple and static. Just need to start doing the work and make it happen. Oi, another project rears its head!

@bgrier ha! I did start a small blog on Bear, yeah, my own dumb issues with WordPress the other day, I just dunno. It's so weird there, too - I don't pay, I have an old grandfathered plan with ad banners, etc haha. But there are other options too, micro.blog, WP is nice but it has so many weird quirks.

@jake4480 Yeah, I'm kinda stuck with WP as I've got years of stuff in my self-hosted instance. Personal blog is hosted on a free oracle cloud thing but still a pain to work with. If there were something that could take all that content I've built over years, store it in a nice flat system, and append any of these kinda posts, I'd be happy with that.
