This week's #MusicWomenWednesday is one I can't stop listening to these last few days. I usually like to wait until a record is out and I've heard all of it, but these three preview tracks are so damn good, I wanted to share.
Glasgow's CLOTH is twins Rachael & Paul Swinton and their songs are incredibly great. Minimal, melodies galore. A new find for me this year (they have another cool LP from 2023).
LP 'Pink Silence' is out fully in less than a month, on April 25.
@jake4480 The hype around those two is obscene. Keep getting them recommended, their gigs pushed, the whole lot.
@bendaubney really!! That is SO wild, I literally hadn't heard of them before maybe a week ago? Wild to see the difference in scenes/areas and what's big and pushed. Do you dig em? I still gotta listen to their full 2023 one, I mean, just based on these 3 songs, if I can re-listen to something this much, high hopes for the rest of this one. Reminds me of kinda like, Portishead, Enya, Sarah McLachlan? But more indie? hahaha. Little Ladytron too?
@jake4480 They're doing an album launch show in Jack White's London basement next month. Kind of tempted to go, but it'd be a midweek trip into town.
@bendaubney oh wow, nice. Gah I'd love to see them live haha. Bet that's amazing. Are they associated with Third Man or just playing Jack's place?
@jake4480 No link I'm aware of, though Third Man often gets emerging artists to put out a single on the label so it might happen! The London basement is tiny, like twenty people at a push, so it'd be a fun place to see them.
@bendaubney oh wow, nice. That's gonna be huge exposure for them, too, with all the eyes on him and his label. And maybe they're already much bigger over there- the USA is often slow with some of this stuff. It's all Charli XCX or whatever over here (and everywhere) for the most part and while she's friends with artists I dig (Clairo etc) I don't get Charli's appeal haha. But each to his own I mean, she was on the top of almost EVERY list last year, and Clairo wasn't. Go figure
@bendaubney I hadn't heard of Cloth before, but now they're on the @jake4480 hype machine I'm all ears. Sounds good, I'll probably give them a few spins today. I'd put them somewhere between Beach House and Glasvegas, which isn't a bad place to be.
@hl @bendaubney well I haven't heard THOSE two artists, so now I gotta!
@jake4480 @hl @bendaubney I love both Glasvegas and Beach House, so I'm listening to Cloth now and I'm digging them!
@starshaped @hl @bendaubney oh awesome! Was wondering if you'd dig.
@jake4480 @hl @bendaubney Yes! I’m definitely going to listen to more of their stuff!
@starshaped @jake4480 @bendaubney oh and the other band I was trying to think of, but it's taken me 24 hours to remember the name, is The Big Moon (mostly they're more upbeat though) https://thebigmoonband.bandcamp.com/album/here-is-everything
