Shout out to for being the most solid piece of software that just keeps on ticking. I've been self-hosting my own email for 20 years and I can't think of a single time it gave me trouble.

#linux#smtp#email

@pcyx I did that for a long while also starting about 20 years ago, but then my ISP started blocking port 25, and then additional stuff like DKIM/SPF came around and made it impossible to do anymore.

@Danathar I'm hosting from a dedicated server, not my house, so the ISP port blocking part hasn't bitten me, at least!

SPF/DKIM/DMARC is pretty much a requirement nowadays if you want Google/Microsoft etc to not block all your messages.

I used to manage an email server at my job back then, where the marketing department was sending a few million emails per week from the server sitting on the rack next to me in my office, so I got very familiar with all the "deliverability" challenges. 🙄

@pcyx I stopped hosting my own email about 20 years ago but i remember Postfix being pretty solid.

I've been considering hosting my own email again lately but, if i go ahead i think i’ll try Stalwart.

@MediocreWightMan Ohh, I haven't seen that... My curiosity has been piqued.

@pcyx Shout out to Postfix logs as well. They quickly give you an idea what's going on with message delivery
