Just watched #Living staring #BillNighy. I’m blown away. At the end, when the first quiet strains of Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis emerged from the poignant moment of climax/anti-climax, I silently gasped. I have listened to, and loved, that piece of music since I was 15 or 16, having discovered it in my father’s records 50 years ago now. I know others will note the Scottish song as the poignant music of the film, and it is, but those gentle first strings of Vaughan Williams captured the meaning of the work for me.
I am face to face with life, and death.
Unfortunately, it seems “Living” is leaving Netflix (at least in Ireland) tomorrow.
