Afternoon birdsong
Between thoughts and dreams
my eyes fall shut

The day we discovered
that future and past
were the same, that
rods were cones and
versa fame.
The moment turvy
topped out, quitters
tapped in, and the
healthiest morning
drink was gin.
We knew. Turning
pages don’t make
a story. In the moment
all the glory.

you can't declutter
an empire
or gentrify the foundations -
corpses, mostly
mortared with cheap lies
fermented to intoxicate
gods, race, blood,
the divine right of kings
superior inferior
none of it sparks joy
or serves a purpose
