"Waiting for a Girl Like You" is a 1981 #powerBallad by the British-American #rock band #Foreigner released as the second #single from the album 4 (1981) and was co-written by #LouGramm and #MickJones. The opening motif was written by #IanMcDonald and the distinctive #synthesizer theme was performed by the then-little-known #ThomasDolby.

Thomas Dolby regularly surprises and delights with the novel ways he contributes meaningful creative expression to the world.

I'd like to be more like him when I grow up.
Released #OnThisDay in 1984: #ThomasDolby - The Flat Earth
I wrote about it very recently. Now if I had it on CD I would be able to listen to it now as I'm on the go!

The Earth can be any shape you want it (please remember). There are stones buried in my soul. #Music #ThomasDolby
#NowPlaying: #ThomasDolby - The Flat Earth
This album is almost ubiquitous on LP (I have a unique version with a signature of a collector, I started collecting them) but on CD it's very rare: I have been waiting for it to appear for 1,5 years. I didn't quite understand the debut, but this sophomore effort seems so mature and sincere. Dissident is funky as fuck but the title track, my favourite, takes it down a bit and it's a calm, romantic masterpiece.
*Aliens Ate My Buick* is my favorite #ThomasDolby album. But *The Flat Earth* is a close second, albeit very different in feel - except for "Hyperactive" which is total insanity.
Some good shit in these here grooves.
@Weru Agreed! I LOVE it, top to bottom.
I bought the LP when it first came out, and it must have been at least a week that I listened to nothing else. My roommate wore out "Keys to Her Ferrari" - "Budapest By Blimp" is one of my ALL-time favorite songs, and - Lene Lovich's demented yodeling in "May the Cube With You" cracks me up to this day!

Speaking of Master Dolby, the other day I listened to "Keys to her Ferrari" immediately followed by #Poe 's "Hey Pretty" (the version with the dude narrating) - and the Universe sort of clicked a little more firmly in place.
"There was ONE room in the house that was always kept locked. It was... "
"We make a crucial team for a dying world
And style is a word I never even heard
In your vocabulary, victim of a murder mystery
...murder!"

@Wyrdwyzard I love every track on this record.
My roommate at the time would play "Keys to her Ferrari" without exaggeration, at least 12 times a day for a whole month. Loved the record even so!
Those #LeneLovich (IIRC) weird vocal ejaculations on "May the Cube Be With You" crack me up to this day.
I was in a #ThomasDolby mood earlier - so much beautiful stuff he's done, but I think my favorite song of his is "Budapest By Blimp"
There's longing without being sappy, wistfulness, nostalgia, and musically - it's a masterpiece. Those vocals? That BASS? Damn.

Another superb Cherry Red Records compilation.
Independent British Synth Pop '78-'84
Sure there's the 'big names' like #TheHumanLeague #OMD #TheNormal #ThomasDolby #FadGadget but it's the bands who maybe released just one single or had a brief run of local fame before fading away that grabs the attention.
This song is a great example - Poeme Electronique w. She's An Image
I love the fact it sounds like it could have been made by Trisha Yates and the rest of the girls at Grange Hill. It's the DIY attitude that you don't hear anymore.
