Finished this wrap a while ago but haven't been in a posting mood 'til now. This is 36 ends per inch in wool. The final length was a bit shy of two yards. I gave it to a friend who's helped me though some really difficult times recently, and it felt so good to give her a physical manifestation of my time, care, and attention.

I'm excited about weaving more fine fabric like this. Right now I'm setting up something thicker but still pretty fine, an Angora nylon blend at 24 epi. #textiles #weaver #weaving #fiberarts #wool #plainweave #loom

At an elevation of 3,723 meters, Chinchero is located between Urubamba and Cusco. During the Inca Empire, Chinchero served as an important town and administrative center. The site is considered sacred by the Inca people and is still a significant pilgrimage destination for the Quechua and other Andean communities.

Chinchero is known for its traditional textile arts and weaving. The locals continues to maintain the Inca weaving techniques, producing textiles, rugs, shawls, ponchos, and other woven goods out of alpaca and sheep wool.

We went to visit Chinchero - like everywhere - by local bus. The first picture shows how women here carry and entertain their babies 🙈

When we arrived, we were a bit disappointed because the market—which had been described everywhere as huge and spectacular—was really small. There were only some women sitting on the floor and selling the same artisanal goods you find everywhere else in the Sacred Valley of Cusco...

The weaving showroom was interesting though. The woman there showed us how they traditionally weave and explained with which materials from nature the wool is dyed.

Now to figure out what to do with the rest of this weaving wool from my inherited stash… like the blue and brown, I’ve just finished, it’s not for garments but rather upholstery. It will probably be more cushion covers but in a different pattern this time …maybe some kind of randomised check/tartan.. 🧐

1.6 m x 55 cm off the loom with only a little bit off surplus yarn left on the shuttles (maybe for som band weaving). Took only two nights to weave 💪.
Sturdy pure wool fabric destined for cushion covers …maybe for sale, maybe just for us.
But first I need to soak the fabric (after I’ve gotten the cat off of it 😂)
