''The Mozambican police's use of lethal force against participants in a peaceful parade shows disturbing disregard for life and the law,'' the rights group deputy Africa director, Ashwanee Budoo-Scholtz, said. About 16 people are reported to have been injured, including children. An unprecedented wave of demonstrations was organised in Mozambique since the October 2024 presidential election, with protesters contesting the results and the rising cost of living. Security forces cracking down on the protests have been accused of "serious human rights abuses".

According to a notice of civil claim filed in B.C. Supreme Court Wednesday, the Tesla driver fled the scene after either "racing with, or in the alternative travelling with, a Nissan Altima" that slammed into the truck in the southbound lanes of the east end of the Pattullo on Valentine's Day.... The court documents say the young man was arrested last week and his car — a 2022 Tesla Y model — has been impounded."
