Just made soup. (Sadly soup season is almost over, another month maybe.)
Pumpkin, roasted parsnip & carrot, tomato, ginger soup. Even with salt, pepper, basil and chili powder, it wasn't quite.
Added a shot of dijon mustard.
Mustard is that little bit of necessary magic.

放射性黃色 (二)

OK, this is another version from the previous one posted here few days ago (back on Thursday). In this version, some more details are discernible as I've darkened some areas. With this shot, this macro series (which was shot on February 8th) is over. I still have some more to come, and I'm working already on some more shots to the best of my ability. I want to try more night long exposure in the neighborhood (can't go far), but things aren't going smooth at the moment (and people probably aren't in friendly term with someone walking with a camera alone after midnight shooting around their homes). Anyway, we'll see what can be done in this regard.

放射性黃色 (radioactive yellow);

It might hurt your eyes, so I'm sorry for this. It's just an experiment in editing this shot of the mustard flower. By this I'm reaching the end of this series, but actually I still have one more to post (hopefully by next Sunday), which is actually the 2nd version of this one,but less radiant!

Another abstract from the mustard flowers. This one was a bit of a struggle actually, and initially I was going to delete it. Because of the breeze, the stem was moving, and the shot didn't capture the point I was focusing on. However, as I was going to delete it, I noticed that it has some good sharpness to it, and I thought it would be such a waste to delete it. Thus, tried my best to work around the lines and shapes provided to create some kind of harmony or story in some way, starting from the 16:9 ratio crop (to add movement or a dynamic element to the image since this look is somewhat "cinematic"). The rest was a tale of lights and shadows, curves and lines, and shapes.

As for this macro shot, for one of the mustard flowers, I was actually going to delete it. However, decided to work around it in some abstract manner or approach. That, actually, was followed by other abstract editing for some other images as well.
The reason for the title is the way the curves and lines flow from the lower left to the upper right corner of the image, somewhat like someone raising a hand to reach out to something.

So, I'm finished with the stroll series, which was on February 4th, and now with a new series, which was shot on February 8th. This series is mainly macro (or extreme macro I should say), shot for some of the mustard flowers in the yard, using Voigtländer 20mm lens in reverse, which supposedly yields a magnification of 3.2X (or 3.2:1, or if you will 31/5:1).
The title of this one comes from the movie "Predator" - as the stamens (or these internal flower parts) looked like the fangs of that creature in that movie.

As promised: my Dijon mustard recipe! Not really a recipe so much as a list of ingredients and general set of instructions, which is more like how I cook anyway: tasting and making adjustments as I go.

What you'll need:
:discoursechef: yellow and black mustard seeds, around 100g total
:discoursechef: 125mL white vinegar
:discoursechef: 50mL white wine vinegar (can be just more white vinegar, or something like cider vinegar)
:discoursechef: dry white wine (pinot grigio is commonly recommended; I use whatever I have on hand)
:discoursechef: water
:discoursechef: salt
:discoursechef: some sort of sweetener (sugar, honey, agave)
:discoursechef: any flavourings or spices you might want to try (see details)

The first step is to soak your mix of seeds in a mixture of 2 parts vinegar to 1 part water. For the seed mix: the black seeds are the spicy ones, so add more if you want more zip. I started off with 2:1 yellow to black and got a good result. You can make a basic yellow mustard by omitting black seeds entirely.

Soak the seeds in a glass bowl with enough liquid to cover them and account for some expansion as the seeds absorb the liquid. Cover and let sit at least four hours - longer is better up to about 48 hours. I do overnight.

Mugshot - Profile;

Back to my regular posts, with still some macro for the mustard flower that I've shot last week. Spoiler alert: I did another series of macro shots for these flowers just few days ago, but going a bit extreme with 3.2X magnification. They'll be posted in time. This one here is the last one in this series (and probably my favorite from this series).
