Over 70% of earth's surface is covered in water, but probably over 99% of photographs are taken in air.
This is the first time I've ever seen or managed to photograph a member of the Sphaeromatidae family of isopods, in a shallow rock pool.
It's also the first time I've seen an active limpet, rather than as they usually appear, inert, clamped to rocks while the tide is out.
The stripy tentacle like appendages are fascinating.

Ecologists contend with the fact that many ecosystems we love and want to restore and rewild are in fact human-created ecosystems. Native plants in these systems are indeed native but selected by humans in human-created ecosystems. Which means insects, animals and other biota in those systems are influenced by humans.

We will never go back to pre-human ecosystems. Our world is shaped by our behavior. We depend on our world to survive. Our world depends on us to survive. We depend on each other to survive.

We are part of nature, we shape nature, we try to optimize it for our survival. We are natural beings. We are part of the world's ecosystems.

The Prairie Ecologist · Are Prairies Less Natural Because They Need Us?What if I told you tallgrass prairie is a human construct? Would you think it’s less important?  Less natural?  Less real? I don’t know if “human construct” is a totally fair description,…

It's only recently that I have learnt that the male platypus has venomous spurs on its hind legs. Apparently the pain that these spurs can inflict on a human is excruciating, long lasting, and resistant to common analgesics .

I feel disillusioned, as I had never thought of the platypus as a dangerous animal.

This article informed me of more characteristics that make the platypus such an extraordinary creature.

Earthly Mission · The One and Only Platypus: An Egg-Laying, Venomous, Fluorescent Mammal with Electroreception—And No Stomach! The platypus is definitely one of the most extraordinary animals! It’s a mammal that lays eggs, has a duck bill, beaver tail, otter feet, and is venomous. It uses electroreceptors to locate prey, has eyes with double cones, no stomach, and 52 chromosomes. And it's fluorescent and glows under UV light!
