REALLY GOOD day helping out the #ndp today. Big sign wave on #bchwy4 in #portalberni. Gord Johns was there and then jetted off to other spots in the riding. 🏃

I helped out with some data entry, then knocked on doors in my neighbourhood.

Talked to some voters (pro and not so sure). All good conversations. Helped someone make a plan to vote.

It feels really good to help.

If the thought ever crossed your mind to help a campaign, do it! You won't regret it!

All done! 3hrs. 8.6km 457m elevation.

Not to sore, but the boy is definitely better on the cardio than me. 😅
Some nice views, saw lots of ravens, eagles, bees, caterpillars, and a garter snake!

Here’s a route recap if you’re into AllTrails.

So proud of my little town, which has had a prominent Sikh and SE Asian community for a hundred years, finally having its own Vaisahki parade! There were an impressive number of spectators and participants! And bonus, it was all around my neighbourhood as we live only a few blocks from the Guru Nanak Sikh Society gurdwara.

Northern spy 🍏 planted in place of the aged hydrangea. We will train it tall so that it can provide shade over the path and maybe front yard/pond on hot summer days.

Parents had a whole bunch of horse manure 🐎 and a big bag of peat moss so we mixed some of that in for the tree. It didn’t have much of a root ball so we’ll have to make sure it stays nice and anchored. #diy #gardening #apple #pnw #portalberni #vancouverisland

The day is done. Made a reasonable dent in the mountain. Raised the level of about half of the driveway. Tomorrow I will measure the fabric for the car tracks and put down another 2 loads of dirt to bring it to the edge of the tracks.

Then we'll need to wait until a weekday when I am home to go get sand, gravel, and top soil.

Maybe Ill go to the stone shop next week and grab the flagstones for the path. 🤔

Lots to do!

Then we will move to the backyard again and start on plumbing for the poolpond!

Excited for the additions! Bought an Italian plum to replace the old and dying Italian plum on our neighbour’s side. And bought another Northern Spy 🍏 to plant in the front in place of an aged hydrangea.

This will complete the complement of 3 apple trees in the front yard! Yay! (2 northern spy semi dwarf, 1 blushing delight columnar visible in the previous post beside the little dump truck) and start the fruit tree complement in the back to go with the well established hazelnut tree. I want at least 2 more fruit trees in the back. Possibly four.

Morning shift of #OperationMoveDirtMountain is complete. Good progress was made. The new level in the front driveway was marked and is being extended.

This is essentially just horrible and sticky clay but it will have to do as a base to bring the front driveway up to a better height sloping less toward the house and in general.

The two gravel tracks for the car will be kept and deepened/solidified while a number of flat stones will provide walking paths from each side of the car to the sidewalk or backyard.

This is part of the #poolpond campaign

Possible strong winds this afternoon and evening for Inland Vancouver Island.

I suspect the strongest winds will be in #GoldRiver :goldriver: and Tahsis as the low pressure centre is headed just north of the tip of Vancouver island but it will probably be gusty in #PortAlberni :portalberni: as well.

Might want to bring in those new Canada 🇨🇦 flags for the night!

Latest ENSO (El Niño/Southern Oscillation) forecast is out. The verdict is that the minor La Niña that existed the past few months is now gone. We are in “Neutral" conditions for the forseeable future, likely all the way to Fall and maybe next Winter.

Better chance of another La Niña next winter than El Niño, but the best chance is for Neutral conditions.
