Later on today, after I clean up from the class, I'm planning on re-recording my studio tour video with its current incarnation. The version that's on YouTube right now only shows half the room because the other half was an absolute disaster. I've also made some changes to the room to make it better organized for my needs. #silversmithing #jewelry #ImAMaker

The net effect of all this is that I spend a lot of time, effort, and money on creatively exploring new materials and techniques and get stuck with jewelry items my clientele doesn't understand or want to pay for. It's heartbreaking.

It also turns my #silversmithing efforts into a repetitive exercise making the same old things that I know will sell. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'll spend the day in my studio today. (It's finally warm enough that I only need one space heater in there.) I'm experimenting with a new (to me) metal, Shibuichi. It's a blend of 15% silver and 85% copper that supposedly makes interesting patterns with certain patinas applied. I've got an idea for earrings and want to experiment with the patinas. I'm going to do a little more homework before I head down and get to work. A 3x6" sheet cost me $68 so I don't want to screw it up. 😬 #silversmithing

If you haven’t heard, my newest ebook tutorial guide is available on my YouTube merch store. A great way to have over 170 metalsmithing tutorials right at your fingertips, along with pictures, materials lists, and annotations about each project. Also a great way to support my YouTube channel! chads-silversmithing-shop.four #tutorials #silversmithing #artjewelry #metalsmithing #chadsilversmithing #maker #handmadejewelry #handmadejewellery

Decided to be productive tonight. I'm making 10 pairs of my spiral hoop earrings in fine silver while I watch tv. My inventory is down to just one pair. I'll make copper ones tomorrow; I don't have any of those left.

I'll be doing art shows in Washington starting in May and I need a full stock of the basics.

I spent nearly all day yesterday at my desk, finishing up various chores on my computer. I'd like to spend most of today in my studio, finishing the cleanup and starting some new #jewelry projects. My pendant inventory is painfully small
and my online inventory isn't accurate. I also need some new earring designs; I feel I'm getting stale. #silversmithing… (1/2)

Working on a new pendant design that's similar to my rollover pendants. I never did like the way the bail looked or worked on those rollovers.

I'll start by cutting out the shapes I need, which are basically the same shape I was using for the rollover. This is a piece of 24 gauge sterling silver that was left over from another project. I put this shapes as close together as possible to minimize waste. #silversmithing #jewelry

I made two sterling silver leaves as sample components of an earring design I came up with. Each one is just an inch long and 1/2 inch wide. These are made with a technique called fold forming. They are a little bigger than I want them, but I'm not convinced I can use this technique to make smaller ones. I might have to make them this size and cut them down. #silversmithing
