I really want to be part of an indie game dev group. We can make cool, fun games together where each person can play to their own strengths! If we want, we’ll even call our group something stereotypically overambitious like “Studio _____” or “_____ Productions”. Doesn’t that sound just swell?
I feel like if everyone were on the same page, at least moderately skilled, and shared a creative vision together, we would be able to make seriously cool games! I’ve had the idea to do a co-op game studio for a while and later found that a group of ex-ZA/UM developers are doing something similar (complete with a surprisingly earnest and biting manifesto). That means I’m at least not alone in the desire for an anti-hierarchy-inspired system.
How feasible this is, I have no idea! I struggle a lot with just doing basic adult things like “going to work” and “taking my meds”, so the idea of being responsible (even in part) for a game dev team is a daunting thought. It might be a good idea to wait until I’m more settled in life, however so far that day has not come and, based off the state of local and world politics, it honestly doesn’t look like it’s coming anytime soon. With that perspective, there’s no time like the present! #lambgamedev #gamedev #gamedevelopment #godot #vgm #spriteart #indiegame
I've been too preoccupied with professional opportunities to update #LostNoise recently. Instead, allow me to introduce a Mastodon-exclusive reveal of an upcoming character. Our Lady Isoke of the Shimtei Grasslands. Other characters are around her for a size comparison.
Doing an #introduction post!
I'm John Cutting (he/him), a writer, artist, veteran, and long-time lover of fantasy, science fiction, and RPGs.
I wrote two complete (and one in-progress) sprite comics all set in the same universe that are story-driven, epic fantasies rather than comedy-driven stories. If you enjoy the SNES RPGs from the Golden Age of Square Enix, then I think you will like my stories.
Fortuna Saga (https://fortunasaga.com/?webcomic2=canticle-2) involves an isolated nation suddenly encountering the outside world after generations of solitude.
Hymns of the Apostate (https://fortunasaga.com/?webcomic3=canticle-3) occurs some time after the Fortuna Saga in a world without magic that involves the intrigue between nations, faiths, and rediscovery of forgotten secrets.
Lost Noise (https://fortunasaga.com/?webcomic1=canticle-1) is a prequel to the previous stories. It is currently a work in-progress, but I'm excited about how this world will expand and comment on the themes of the previous two stories.
I write, paint with oils, photoshop, code, and make pixel art. For my job, I consult with companies to help them run more ethically, sustainably, and with a strong focus on people and society.
I love movies, role playing games, and world history. I lived in Japan for many years, and my partner and children are fluent Japanese speakers. So, you can also expect a lot of these perspectives as well.
Happy to meet you!
